Description
At one time one of America's most profitable companies, the Reading Railroad had it's own spot on the Monopoly board. In fact, the Reading ("redding") name lived on well after the company went bankrupt in the 1970s, after the decline of the anthracite coal industry post WWII. In the fall of 1960 the photographer snapped this picture of three of the railroad's shiny new diesel locomotives, tipping on the superelevated track to compensate for curvature, as it passed near Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, the heart of the anthracite region in PA.
